1942-"Bambi"

Bambi is a 1942 American animated film produced by Walt Disney and based on the book Bambi, A Life in the Woods by Austrian authorFelix Salten. The film was released by RKO Radio Pictures on August 13, 1942, and it is the fifth film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series.

The main characters are Bambi, a white-tailed deer, his parents (the Great Prince of the forest and his unnamed mother), his friends Thumper(a pink-nosed rabbit), and Flower (a skunk), and his childhood friend and future mate, Faline. For the movie, Disney took the liberty of changing Bambi's species into a white-tailed deer from his original species of roe deer, since roe deer don't inhabit the United States, and the white-tailed deer is more familiar to Americans. This film received three Academy Award nominations for Best Sound, Best Song for "Love Is a Song" and Original Music Score.

In June 2008, the American Film Institute presented a list of its "10 Top 10"—the best ten films in each of ten "classic" American film genres—after polling over 1,500 people from the creative community. Bambi placed third in animation.- Information from wikipedia.org

Bambi was my first Disney movie! I remember going around saying all the lines from it. It really is the first movie I remember understanding.

I don't have a whole lot of comments on this film. I just know that I don't like the voice of Thumper's girlfriend, and that I forgot Bambi fought another deer for Faline. And........Sterling Holloway is the voice of Flower as an adult! <3>

Bambi is a great classic Disney film! I recommend it to all families! It is I great movie to start your kids off with. I know from experience! LOL

1942- "Saludos Amigos"

Saludos Amigos (Hello, friends in English, Alô, Amigos in Portuguese) is a 1942 animated film produced by Walt Disney and released byRKO Radio Pictures and Buena Vista Distribution. It is the 6th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. It is the first of six package films made by the Disney studio in the 1940s. Set in Latin America, it is made up of four different segments; Donald Duck stars in two of them and Goofy stars in one. It also features the first appearance of José Carioca.^[1] Saludos Amigos was popular enough that Walt Disney decided to make another film about Latin America, The Three Caballeros, to be produced two years later. Saludos Amigos premiered in Rio de Janeiro on August 24, 1942. It was released in the United States on February 6, 1943. It garnered mixed reviews and was only reissued once, in 1949, when it was shown on a double bill with the first reissue of Dumbo.

In early 1941, before U.S. entry into World War II, the United States Department of State commissioned both a Disney goodwill tour of South America, intended to lead to a movie to be shown in Central and South America as part of the Good Neighbor Policy. The tour, underwritten by the State Department, took Disney and a group of composers, artists, etc. from his studio to South America, mainly to Brazil and Argentina, but also to Chile and Peru. The film itself was given federal loan guarantees. These were necessary because the Disney studio had over-expanded just before European markets were closed to them by the war, and because Disney was struggling with labor unrest at the time (including a strike that was underway at the time the goodwill journey began).^[1]

Disney was chosen for this because several Latin American governments had close ties with Nazi Germany^[1], and the US government wanted to counteract those ties. Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters were popular in Latin America, and Walt Disney acted as ambassador.

The film received 3 Academy Award nominations for Best Sound, Original Music Score and Best Song for "Saludos Amigos".

The film also inspired Chilean cartoonist René Ríos Boettiger to create Condorito, one of Latin America's most ubiquitous cartoon characters. Ríos perceived that the character Pedro, a small, incapable airplane, was a slight to Chileans and created a comic that could supposedly rival Disney's comic characters.- Information from wikipedia.org

I thought I had never seen Saludos Amigos, but it turns out that I remember seeing parts of it when I was little. It has llamas in it, so that was pretty good! (That was for you Katie and Winston). It also has some good culture bits featuring Donald and Goofy.

Saludos Amigos is not much of a movie, but more an educational video with some animation. Nonetheless, an enjoyable film.
